RIT and ASM Unveil New Manufacturing Line in Rochester

Event showcasing the new ASM state-of-the-art manufacturing line at RIT.  Pursuing miniaturization and the convergence of lasers, silicon, optics, sensors and data.

Concise remarks by several on the panel, including these by Irene Sterian, the Executive Director and architect of a $19M Business-led Network of Centers of Excellence (BL-NCE) for renewable energy, new materials and optics & photonics.

Over her 30-year career with IBM and Celestica, Irene has proven her technology leadership in innovation management, product enablement, and global technology transfer, transforming industry standards to solve today’s business challenges. She is also a recipient of the IBM Technology Award and the Celestica Leadership Award.

In today’s digital world, companies like ASM are enabling their customers to create the next generation of electronics devices and packages, that can enhance the way we live, work and interact with each other. This technology will require smart factories, and a well trained workforce. Rochester Institute of Technology is leading the way by educating the next generation of designers, manufacturing engineers and researchers needed to continue the fast pace of product development and realization. RIT’s CEMA lab is leveraging ASM’s technological advances to provide the industry with research resources and education opportunities. Through this partnership CEMA is uniquely positioned to prepare future manufacturing engineers for successful careers in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) as well as provide current engineers in the EMS industry with a state of the art Surface Mount Technology assembly line for research.
