Rochester Precision Optics Moves Plastics Operation to Rochester

Rochester Precision Optics has decided to relocate its Manchester, NH Plastic Optics Division to their recently expanded RPORochester, NY facility. Moving the Plastic Optics Division into the main facility will allow the manufacturing group to fully access all of the engineering and manufacturing support services within our main facility (i.e. Accounting, Purchasing, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Planning , Quality Assurance, Document Control, Human Resources and Facilities Management). Plastic Optics will report into the Operations Group and will complement the other core competencies within the 100,000+ square foot RPO optics manufacturing campus including:

  • Design Engineering
  • Optical Assembly and Test
  • Precision Glass Molding
  • Diamond Turning and Tool Making
  • Conventional and CNC Grinding, Polishing and Centering
  • Thin Film Optical Coating
  • CNC Machine Shop

Bill Hurley, RPO President & CEO said, “In our commitment to providing the highest quality optical solutions, and continuing to grow our business, this move is part of our strategic growth plan and cost containment.  We will continue to provide the best products available. The synergies that we will recognize from this move will allow us to continue to provide world class service to our customers. It will create operational efficiencies that our customers will see as improvement to on time delivery, and customer service as well as additional development resources for new product development projects.”

RPO also announced the promotions of David Schmidt to Chief Scientist and Howard Wong to Production Manager, Plastic Optics. They will both be relocating to Rochester NY as part of this move. David will report to Robert Benson, RPO Director of Engineering & Technology and Howard will report to Rob Thorpe, RPO Production Manager.
