Koch Environmental Achieves ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Designation for Test Chambers

Koch Environmental, a Rochester-area environmental simulation company, just announced that its test chamber calibrations are now accredited by ISO/IEC 17025:2005, which is the international standard of competence for testing laboratories and calibration services.

Through the use of environmental test chambers, Koch Environmental helps product developers and quality assurance professionals test performance and uncover design flaws in emerging products. Inside the simulation chambers, new products are tested to see how they perform under conditions such as extreme temperatures, high and low relative humidity, thermal shock, and high altitudes. To ensure accurate results, the test chambers used to simulate these conditions must be precisely calibrated.

Koch Environmental currently works with six companies in the Rochester area, supporting product development and innovations in the optics and photonics space. Koch, members of New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium (NY-BEST) and Rochester Regional Photonics Cluster, helps companies install and calibrate test chambers to perform lifecycle testing, optical coating performance, load management, and more.

Jeff Koch, president of Koch Environmental, has personally been serving local optics companies since 1977. “Too often, companies reach beyond their core competencies. We believe there is greater value in specialization, especially when it comes to high precision markets like optics and photonics. Achieving ISO accreditation is an important validation for us and for the clients we serve. It gives our customers proof in the quality of the data and helps them document exceedingly stringent requirements,” he says.

Koch’s in-depth knowledge of test chambers is well-known. The company’s Western New York location allows its service technicians to reach customers quickly, which is critical given the high cost of downtime when production lines are at a standstill. Customers rely on Koch not only for calibration, but for maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting. While Koch typically works on-site at a customer’s location, it has an in-house laboratory that provides engineers with additional testing capacity.
