New York Photonics Cluster Endorses Leadership Accord

ROCHESTER, NY, August 18, 2015 – New York Photonics, based in Rochester, NY, endorses the leadership statement issued today by SUNY Polytechnic Institute President and CEO Dr. Alain E. Kaloyeros and University of Rochester President and CEO Joel Seligman.

We salute the leadership of Governor Andrew Cuomo for convening New York’s “Dream Team” and supporting his vision with a major investment.

We thank Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (NY-25) for her unflagging support of the Photonics NMI effort during the past four years. We thank New York Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand for their support as well.

Thanks also are due to Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle (NY-136) for his determination and support.

The leadership and collaboration that made the AIM Photonics proposal a winner deserve high praise. This includes Dr. Kaloyeros and his team at SUNY Polytech; Joel Seligman and his team at the University of Rochester; President William Destler and his team at RIT, and many, many others.

And finally, once again we thank our partners in the National Photonics Initiative that worked so hard to make this opportunity possible.

It is gratifying to see the collaborative spirit reignited among New York partners with today’s Joint Leadership Statement. We are eager to move forward with the world-class innovation and leading edge manufacturing capabilities that won this proposal. This investment will pay dividends, not only for the Department of Defense in the best integrated photonics technology for U.S. national security, but also for New York Photonics researchers and manufacturers for many years to come.
