Nanocollege Split From U. Albany: Genius or Hubris?

Albany Nanotech as it is known, has grown from an idea residing in the basement of the University at Albany Meteorological Center with a few researchers, into a powerhouse that helped attract Sematech to the region from Austin, and billions of dollars investment in the region. It has put Albany “on the map” with technology and investment capital. Unimaginable twenty years ago. Still, their progress has been pretty much fueled with taxpayer money and tax breaks for the Global Foundries project. Is this new move a smart move?
