Joe is currently Director of Sales and Marketing at Optimax, playing a key leadership role within the organization. During his tenure at Optimax, Joe has helped grow it into America’s largest optical components manufacturing company – revenues have doubled through greater penetration with key customers and entry into new application spaces.

For over 15 years, Joseph Spilman has worked in the optics and photonics industry across a wide variety of application spaces, company types, and geographies. His diverse experience provides great value to the cluster, ultimately benefitting its array of member organizations.

Prior to joining Optimax, Joe was a member of the executive team at ArmorLine Corp., a start-up company in Indian Land, South Carolina. Here he was responsible for the commercial operations of this capital-intensive, advanced transparent ceramic manufacturing business. He also previously worked at II-VI in industrial laser and defense IR optics and NIR solid-state laser applications.

Joe holds a Bachelor’s degree in Optics from the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Rochester Institute of Technology’s Saunders College of Business.
