James Sydor, President & CEO of Stefan Sydor Optics has made personal donation of $250,000 to Monroe Community College’s Optical Systems Technology program, the only program of its kind in the U.S. Jim’s contribution is a 50% match to the Corning Incorporated Foundation grant of $500,000.
Jim has been involved with the program going back to the early 1970’s when he graduated with an Associate Degree. Today he is a member of the Optics Advisory Committee at MCC where he provides insight into curriculum and industry needs.
The MCC optics program, which offers one year certificates and associate degrees in optical systems technology, has been revitalized over the past few years with much support from the local optics community with outreach and donations of time and equipment for the optics laboratory. The 2012-2013 school year will start with 25 students with only 3 spaces open.
The Sydor Optics delivery van is now wrapped in an ad promoting the MCC program.
