ASE Optics and Rochester Precision Optics Expand to Serve European Technology Companies

Rochester, NY (May 20, 2012) – ASE Optics and their parent company Rochester Precision Optics (RPO) announce the launch of ASE Optics Europe to strengthen their presence and service to European customers. ASE Optics Europe, an optical engineering services firm, provides optical engineering and design for technology companies in industries like medical devices, biotechnology, industrial and automotive.

European companies face a dramatic and growing shortage of optical engineers. Their investment in programs like Photonics21 recognizes the growing demand for optics and photonics as enabling technologies. ASE Optics and

RPO are responding to their customers’ immediate and long-term needs today with the opening of the ASE Optics Europe office.

Christopher Cotton, GM of ASE Optics, states, “ASE Optics provides optical engineering support for companies who can’t find, can’t afford, or can’t justify having an optical engineer on staff. Our customers’ teams are typically overburdened or short on the specialty knowledge to get optimum performance from a system.”

“We’re seeing increasing requests for help from European companies, and are pleased to now provide them with regional support.”

Andres Cifuentes, Director of European Sales and Engineering, will lead ASE Optics Europe from their Barcelona office. Cifuentes is the former Manager of SECPhO, the Southern European Cluster in Photonics and Optics, and has worked as the lead Optical Engineer for technology companies for the prior ten years.

“In meeting the RPO and ASE team, I knew that these were the caliber of people I want to partner with. The companies I’ve worked with here in Spain and throughout Europe need sophisticated, systems-level engineering help, and I’m pleased to be a part of that solution.”

Bill Hurley, President of Rochester Precision Optics, the parent company of ASE Optics and ASE Optics Europe, believes that engineering services are key to the end system performance for RPO’s global customers. “ASE Optics, which we acquired in 2011, has brought our customers tremendous value by improving performance for all types of systems. Their unique Discovery Service is an economical way to seek answers fast. We’re pleased to strengthen our European market presence and increase our engineering services with the opening of ASE Optics Europe.”

Like ASE Optics, the European office will offer a Discovery Service, 20 hours of engineering for €1950. The Discovery Service can determine feasibility, define a problem, or even identify a solution to a well-defined problem. ASE Optics Europe offers lens design, lens assembly design and engineering, prototyping, and small volume lenses and assemblies. Rochester Precision Optics can then provide a seamless path to volume manufacturing, speeding time to market for their customers.

About ASE Optics Europe

ASE Optics Europe was founded to support European customers whose engineering teams are overburdened or short on optical engineering capability, and whose product development schedules and product performance can benefit from additional optical engineering resources. ASE Optics Europe sees “beyond the lens”—their optical engineers’ expertise is both deep and broad, crossing industries from security and defense to consumer electronics to medical devices. ASE Optics Europe is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rochester Precision Optics.
