New York Governor Andrew Cuomo To Propose $30M OPI Attraction Fund

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo  will propose a $30 million fund to help the photonics cluster in the Rochester area during his State of the State address today.

The proposal will be part of the many initiatives the governor will lay out in State of the State address at 1 p.m. near the state Capitol.

The plans, according to a copy of the proposal obtained by the USA TODAY Network’s Albany Bureau, would establish a $30 million Photonics Attraction Fund through the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council.

The money would be used to “attract integrated photonics companies to set up their manufacturing operations in the greater Rochester area,” according to the proposal.

“New York enjoys a significant strategic advantage in the optics, photonics and imaging industries.  We welcome Governor Cuomo’s continued support and his economic development efforts to help grow the industry in New York,” said New York Photonics executive director, Tom Battley.
