Empire Precision Plastics Obtains Assets of Lightwave Enterprises

Empire Precision Plastics, Inc. (EPP) announced the purchase of the physical assets and hiring of the technical staff of Lightwave Enterprises, Inc. (LEI), a Rochester, New York-based polymer optics, diamond turning and thin film coating company.

The addition of these resources will add an immediate and highly accomplished optical component to Empire Precision’s already broad offering of injection molded products manufactured for the medical/surgical, mil/aero, electronic and consumer products industries.  The LEI equipment has been moved to EPP’s Rochester facility and should be operational on or before March 9, 2012.

Neil Elli

“Integrating optics design and production capabilities into our precision molding operation will help make Empire a complete solutions provider for many engineered injection molding applications,” stated Neal Elli, EPP president.  “Acquiring this capability – both the equipment and a highly skilled support staff – complements our existing business plan, allowing us to offer our domestic and international customers a much broader array of precision component and contract manufacturing services.”

Mr. Elli added that this new cutting-edge manufacturing and metrology operation will ensure that stringent customer specifications for sensitive optical applications are consistently fulfilled.  “We also see benefits of applying our engineering support and knowledge on optical assemblies.”  A more complete description of the company’s added capabilities can be viewed at the LEI web site, www.LEIoptics.com, which will be hosted and maintained by EPP until it is integrated into www.empireprecision.com later this year.

Rochester-based Empire Precision Plastics is a privately held, $10 million firm, founded in 1992.  It is ISO 13485:2008 registered, has a staff of over 60 and offers complete design, engineering, manufacturing, component assembly, testing and inventory services with ISO Class 7 capabilities.  Its 42,500-sq. ft ASQ-Certified facility houses nearly 40 injection molding machines ranging from 20 to 300 tons.  The operation runs on a full five-day, 24-hour-a-day schedule.  EPP employs Scientific Injection Molding and Six Sigma principles into the core of all its operations.

LEI was founded by Rex Fisher and Chuck Devereese in 2000.  The principals will continue to provide consulting services to EPP under the new name, Devtex Consulting Group.
